Revolutionary mobility concepts
The international course "Global Collaborative Engineering 2021" has been successfully completed!
Over the last few month students from all over the world have worked together online to design and develop a mobility concept for the urban areas of major cities. Although they were not able to meet in person the presented results are stunning!
Project 2021
In the summer semester of 2021, the course took place for the third time. Organized as part of the IDEEA (International Design and Engineering Education Association), the course was offered at 21 universities from 4 continents. A total of 150 students participated.
Teams of 10 students from at least 3 countries worked together to develop mobility concepts for the urban space of major cities. The results were presented to a consortium of professors from different universities and representatives of major international corporations. Normally, the final presentations are held in presence. For this purpose, all students, teachers and professors come together at one of the participating universities. There, the students have time to physically work together on their projects and build simple mock-ups. Unfortunately, the face-to-face event had already been cancelled last year and also this year it was sadly not possible to meet due to the pandemic.
However, this did not stop students from developing great ideas and presenting stunning results. Using techniques from the Design Thinking Process helped to guid the process.

The opportunity for students to participate in a collaborative project is great. A new concept of learning is demonstrated by having students from different cultures and time zones work together online. This not only enhances their personal development, but also gives them the opportunity to gain experience for their future careers. This is an advantage that both students and companies benefit from.
